How can I help your organization tell its story?
Services and Deliverables
Thought leadership — Planning, ghostwriting, interviewing subject-matter experts, and editing articles, Q&As, ebooks, and white papers for contributed spots in trade publications, LinkedIn programs, paid content programs and other channels.
Content for owned and social channels — Blogs and websites, newsletters, social media campaigns, professional bios, practice and department descriptions, client testimonials, and more.
Internal communications — Internal culture stories, recruiting and retention content, firm values and equity & inclusion statements, departmental reports, and more.
Reputation and brand-building — Creating and executing awards programs, drafting nominations, managing media relations, press materials, talking points, presentations, and more.
Editorial coaching — Drawing on my graduate work in education and experience teaching writing to design tailored professional development programs for junior writers, teach writing and editing skills, onboard content professionals, and more.
Editorial process — Developing style guides and editorial calendars, copy editing, project management, and more.
As a seasoned writer and editor with twenty years’ experience across multiple roles in publishing and communications, I understand the power of well-executed content to communicate expertise, tell brand stories, and motivate action.
In my current role as director of content for a boutique communications agency, I collaborate with practice group leaders and senior attorneys to tell the stories of their legal practice, law firm culture, and innovation initiatives across channels and formats.
In addition, I consult with businesses, organizations, authors, and publishers to provide original content, editorial consulting, coaching, and manuscript evaluations. Clients have included Loyola University, Northwestern University, Lighthouse Writers Workshop, the Off-Campus Writers Workshop, and many published authors. My resume also includes in-house positions with Harper Collins Publishers and the University of Michigan Press.
Clients and colleagues appreciate my ability to:
Provide strategic insight on big-picture content plans and consult on complex campaigns
Translate technical material into approachable content that tells a story
Effectively prepare for interviews with subject-matter experts, crafting questions that quickly draw out insights and messages for thought leadership content
Identify target audiences and the outlets that influence them
Research topics and find ways for thought leaders to enter the conversation
Navigate extensive editorial review processes, quickly digesting feedback and bringing collaborators into alignment
Coach junior writers and lead editorial teams
Try new approaches, formats, and processes to get the job done
Deliver a superior, publication-ready finished product, on message and on time
I also have dedicated a portion of my career to creative pursuits. I am the author of award-winning novels published by Penguin and Pegasus Books and favorably reviewed in The New York Times, Publisher’s Weekly, Library Journal, and many other publications. My writing has appeared in Time, The Washington Post, The Toast, The Millions, Lenny, and in Rust Belt Chicago: An Anthology. I hold a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in education from DePaul University.
